Look at you denominators. What did you multiply 8 by to get 40? Multiply the numerator by that same number and you will have your answer.
You could also multiply top to bottom across the equal sign then divide by the other number (like you were doing a proportion) (5 x 40) divided by 8. Either way you will get the same answer.
