This is for my earth science class I have not had physics-

If a person pulls on a cart to the right with a force of 10 N and a second person pulls to the left with a force of 3 N, what is the net force(+direction)on the cart?

I came up with 130 N downward force

10 N-3 N = 7 N (to the right)

To determine the net force on the cart, you need to add the forces acting in the same direction and subtract the forces acting in the opposite direction.

In this case, one person is pulling to the right with a force of 10 N, and the other person is pulling to the left with a force of 3 N. Since the person pulling to the left is opposing the person pulling to the right, their force can be considered negative.

So, to find the net force, you add the forces acting in the same direction and subtract the forces acting in the opposite direction:

Net force = Force to the right - Force to the left

Net force = 10 N - 3 N

Net force = 7 N to the right

Therefore, the net force on the cart is 7 N to the right. It does not affect the downward force unless there are other forces acting on the cart that were not mentioned in the question.
