I don't see the connection. Let us know how you decide to write this up.

I think many sales people have "undue confidence;" it's almost necessary for their jobs. Even though they are often rejected, the make the next sales call with hope and confidence.

The recent debacle with Rush Limbaugh who called a supporter of birth control a prostitute, is an example of his undue confidence.

"Undue confidence" refers to having an excessive or unwarranted sense of certainty or self-assurance. It often involves being overly confident without sufficient evidence or knowledge to back up one's beliefs or abilities. Let's now explore a couple of examples to better understand this concept:

Example 1:
Imagine a student who has consistently received high grades in mathematics throughout elementary and middle school. As a result, this student develops an undue confidence in their math abilities and assumes they will excel effortlessly in a more advanced math class in high school. However, they soon realize that the subject matter is significantly more challenging, and their previous success was simply a result of easier material. Their undue confidence in their abilities leads to a shock when faced with a more rigorous curriculum.

Example 2:
Consider a person who has just started a new job as a software developer. They have a basic understanding of coding but lack extensive experience in real-world projects. Despite this, they exhibit undue confidence by taking on complex tasks without seeking guidance or assistance from their more experienced colleagues. As a result, they often struggle and make significant mistakes, causing delays and frustration for the entire team. Their unwarranted self-assurance in their abilities creates unnecessary obstacles and hampers their professional growth.

In both examples, individuals with undue confidence overestimate their abilities and underestimate the challenges they face. This can lead to poor decision-making, setbacks, and ultimately, a hindrance to personal and professional development.
