Good explanation here -- AND some types of music to look for examples.

I don't get that "Twinkle, twinkle..." is ternary, though -- not from the lyrics nor from the song.

To explain ternary form and how it relates to the song "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," let's break it down step by step.

1. Ternary Form: Ternary form is a musical structure composed of three distinct sections: A, B, and A'. The first section A is usually the main theme or melody, followed by a contrasting section B, and then a return to the original theme in the final section A'. This structure can be represented as ABA'.

2. "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" in Ternary Form: In the context of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," the A section represents the well-known melody that typically begins with the lyrics "Twinkle, twinkle, little star." This is the main theme of the song.

3. The B section provides a contrast to the A section. In the case of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," it is usually a variation of the main melody. This section adds variety and interest to the overall structure of the song.

4. Finally, the A' section is a repetition of the original A section with little to no variation. It serves as a recapitulation or a return to the familiar melody, reinforcing the overall structure.

To understand how the song is played in this structure, you can approach it in the following way:

- Begin by performing the A section, playing or singing the main melody of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" as accurately as possible.

- Move on to the B section, where you can add some variation to the melody. This could involve altering the rhythm, changing the notes slightly, or exploring different harmonies.

- Finally, return to the A' section, playing or singing the original melody from the A section exactly as it was performed at the beginning. This creates a sense of familiarity and completion within the song.

Practice each section separately and then try playing them together in the ABA' order to achieve the full ternary form structure of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."

Remember, this explanation is specific to "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" but can be applied to other musical compositions that follow the ternary form.
