Anthony uses 1.2 metres of leather and one buckle when he makes a leather belt. He can make 15 belts per hour and he values his labour $11 per hour. Anthony buys his supplies in bulk. The leather comes in rolls 50 metres long at a cost of $180 per roll and the buckles come in packets of 25 at $15 per packet. Anthony bought one roll of leather and two packets of buckles.

a) How many belts can Anthony make with the materials he has bought?

b) What materials will Anthony have left over?

c) He wants to cover the cost of labour, and make a 25% profit on the cost of his materials. How much should he charge for each belt?

he bought 50m of leather and 50 buckles.

one belt uses 1.2m of leather and 1 buckle.

He can thus make 50/1.2 = 41 belts with the leather. There are plenty of buckles.

He will have .8m of leather and 9 buckles left over.

His materials cost $180 + $30 = $210.
Add 25% profit and that's $262.50
Add to that the 41/15 hours spent at $11/hr = $30.07, and the total money needed is $292.57

Divide that by the 41 belts made, and he needs to charge $7.14 per belt.
