History

Investigative reporters are bolder today than they were 30 or 40 years ago. How do you think the impact of Watergate has contributed to this boldness? Do you think investigative reporters are justified in being bold to get information for the public, or do you think they are too aggressive?

  1. I'm not sure that investigative reporters are bolder than they were a generation or two ago. They didn't uncover the misinformation that led us into the war in Iraq. In my opinion, investigative reporters fell down on that job and weren't bold enough.

    A democracy depends upon a free press that investigates and reports what government and business officials don't want the public to know. We need more bold investigative reporters.

    Although I deplore the press delving into personal lives, when it uncovers hypocrisy between a public official's public and private lives, then the citizens need to know.
