what be the definition for sustainability that come in environment? I find that it be meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. but i not real understand what this means

We need fuel such as gas and oil. But someday the earth's supply of gas and oil will be gone. Sustainability means to ind other fuels that we can reproduce. For instance, we can sustain our woodlands by planting more trees when we cut down some of them. Sustainability in agriculture is to follow good farming practices such as rotating crops and letting fields lie fallow sometimes.

thanks very much ms. sue :)

You're very welcome, Mohammad. :-)

The definition you provided is indeed a concise and accurate explanation of sustainability in the environmental context. Allow me to break it down further for better understanding.

"Sustainability in the environment" refers to the principle of managing resources and activities in a way that ensures the long-term well-being of both the natural environment and human society. It implies making choices and taking actions that balance the use of resources with their conservation for future generations.

To grasp the concept, let's break down the definition:

1. "Meeting the needs of the present": This implies that we must fulfill the requirements and demands of current society, such as food, water, energy, and other resources necessary for people's well-being. However, it also means being mindful of the limitations and carrying capacity of the environment to provide these resources.

2. "Without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs": This means that while we meet the needs of the present, we should not do so in a way that depletes or damages natural resources to the extent that future generations are unable to fulfill their own needs. It involves responsible resource management, avoiding excessive extraction or pollution, and considering the long-term consequences of our actions.

In short, sustainability in the environmental context is about finding a balance between meeting current societal needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, ensuring the health and preservation of ecosystems and the well-being of all people.
