how do you find the answer to x+2 = (square root) -6x-20. If you could write out how to solve it in steps it would be appreciated!

x+2 = sqrt(-6x-20) ????

square both sides, but keep in mind that may introduce solutions that do not work because sqrt (a^2) = either +a or - a

x^2 + 4 x + 4 = -6x - 20

x^2 + 10 x + 24 = 0

(x+ 6)(x+4) = 0

x = -6 or -4
now we are not done, check both, they may not work
-6+2 = sqrt (36-20) ????
-4 = +4 no!

-4 + 2 = sqrt (24-20)
-2 = + 2 Oh my, also fails
so not solution (solutions are imaginary)
