The Farm Security Administration:

1. provided federal subsidies for the expansion of large farms

2. concentrated on rehabilitating devastated soils on the Great Plains

3. offered loans to marginal farmers (so they could avoid falling into tenancy) and to tenant farmers (so they could purchase their own farms)

4. established educational programs to teach farmers new agricultural methods

5. administered the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1937 (the “Second AAA”)

Confidently say 1

I disagree.

2 is the only other possible answer

Why do you reject the others?

1. (i still think it this but I don't know.. it did provide farmers with larger farms you know ) provided federal subsidies for the expansion of large farms

2.(this could be a possible answer since they wanted to recover from the dustbowl) concentrated on rehabilitating devastated soils on the Great Plains

3. (there is nothing mentioned about loans ) offered loans to marginal farmers (so they could avoid falling into tenancy) and to tenant farmers (so they could purchase their own farms)

4.(that was later and not the main goal) established educational programs to teach farmers new agricultural methods

5.(the AAA I am guessing had formed before the FSA) administered the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1937 (the “Second AAA”)

This act was aimed to help poor farmers keep their mortgaged farms.

I am guessing 3 then?

I am sorry I am really confused.

Yes, 3 is correct. This was at the height of the Depression, and the government was doing everything possible to help poor farmers and laid-off workers.

Farm Security Administration (FSA). The FSA was born in 1937 out of frustration with the failure of New Deal agricultural policy to provide help for the nation's poorest farmers. By the time the Democrats came to power in 1932, over a quarter of all farms, involving almost 8 million people, were generating less than $600 apiece in annual income, putting them on the same level as the most deprived city dwellers. Yet, despite the New Deal's announced goal of raising all farmers out of the Depression, its main program, the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), concentrated on the interests of the largest farm producers, who had irresistible influence in Congress because they dominated the major farm organizations and land grant colleges.

Reading this on wikianswers makes me think 5 could also be possible

The FSA's primary mission was not to aid farm production or prices. Roosevelt's agricultural policy had, in fact, been to try to decrease agricultural production to increase prices. However, when production was discouraged, the tenant farmers and small holders suffered most by not being able to ship enough to market to pay rents. Many renters wanted money to buy farms, but the Agriculture Department realized there already were too many farmers, and did not have a program for farm purchases. Instead they used education to help the poor stretch their money further. Congress however demanded that the FSA help tenant farmers purchase farms, and purchase loans of $191 million were made, which were eventually repaid

and this makes me want to pick 3 AND 4

Certainly the loan program was the cpre of the FSA.

you are correct.

thank you
