Hi this question was already asked but there is still no correct answer. I can't seem to solve this for x correctly...I got 128 over 55 as an answer which can't be correct. Please help me find the correct answer! Thanks The equation is:

.05x-.6(x+2)=.08
Please show the work as well as the answer. Thanks again.
-C

.05x-.6(x+2)=.08

0.05x - 0.6x + 1.2 = 0.08

-0.55x = 0.08 - 1.2

-0.55x = -1.12

x = -1.12 / -0.55

x = 2.036

See if that solution works.

No that's what someone else said and it doesn't work!! And I thought -.6 x 2= -1.2 not positive 1.2.

You're right. My sign is wrong.

0.05x-0.6(x+2)=0.08

Multiply all terms by 100
5x-60(x+2)=8
5x-60x-120=8
-55x=128
x= -(128/55)
All you had to do was put the negative sign in the final answer.

But that still doesn't work in the equation...does it?

Oh I guess it does. Thanks!

To solve the given equation, we will follow these steps:

Step 1: Distribute the terms inside the parentheses:
0.05x - 0.6x - 1.2 = 0.08

Step 2: Combine like terms on the left side of the equation:
-0.55x - 1.2 = 0.08

Step 3: Move the constant term to the right side of the equation by adding 1.2 to both sides:
-0.55x = 0.08 + 1.2

Step 4: Simplify the right side of the equation:
-0.55x = 1.28

Step 5: Divide both sides of the equation by -0.55 to solve for x:
x = 1.28 / -0.55

Step 6: Evaluate the division:
x ≈ -2.327 (rounded to three decimal places)

So, the correct value of x is approximately -2.327.
