Hi, I'm writing an essay and I was wondering if this is how you would write the sentence below. By the way Giannetti is the author and 147 is the page number.

According to Giannetti, “there are no fixed rules concerning rhythm in films and some editors cut according to musical rhythm (147)."

Put the closing quotation marks right after "rhythm" and it'll be perfect.

k thanks I did that though and there's a green line under everything saying it's a fragment. I don't know why it did that.

Don't believe the green lines!! They're usually wrong!

haha alright thanks I was going to say I didn't see anything wrong with it! :)

You're welcome!

Pay attention to the red lines, but if you can turn off the green lines, do it!

Yes, the way you have written the sentence is correct. However, in formal writing, it is preferable to use a different format to include the author's name and page number.

One option is to use a parenthetical citation style, such as APA or MLA, to indicate the source of the information. For example, in APA style, the sentence would be written as:

According to Giannetti (year), "there are no fixed rules concerning rhythm in films and some editors cut according to musical rhythm" (p. 147).

In this format, you would replace "year" with the publication year of Giannetti's work. Additionally, you would include the full reference in the bibliography or reference list at the end of your essay.

Alternatively, you can use a signal phrase to introduce the author's statement. For example:

Giannetti argues that "there are no fixed rules concerning rhythm in films and some editors cut according to musical rhythm" (147).

In this format, you would still need to include the complete citation in the bibliography or reference list.
