i was wondering if i did this correct

Each of the following exercises shows the original source, and then a student’s sentence and/or citation about that source. Each sentence and each citation has at least one thing wrong with it (most have more than one). Each of the following exercises shows the original source, and then a student’s sentence and/or citation about that source. Correct each of them

Source A: an article entitled “What’s Killing the Aspen?” by Michelle Nijhuis, found in the December 2008 edition of Smithsonian magazine, volume 39, no. 9. The article goes from page 26 to 27, and this paragraph was taken from p. 26.

Original paragraph:

By 2006, close to 150,000 acres of Colorado aspen were dead or damaged, according to aerial surveys. By the following year, the grim phenomenon had a name – “sudden aspen decline,” or SAD – and the devastated acreage had more than doubled, with some 13 percent of the state’s aspen showing declines. In many places, patches of bare and dying treetops are as noticeable as missing teeth, and some sickly areas stretch for miles. Aspen declines are also underway in Wyoming, Utah, and elsewhere in the Rockies. Surveys of two national forests in Arizona showed that from 2000 to 1007, lower-elevation areas lost 90 percent of their aspens.

#2- its idea is not correct the information cited isn't the same as in source.

2. Student’s sentence:

Aspen are experiencing a massive illness that is spreading through Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah, causing some areas to lose as many as 90% of the aspen population. (Nijhuis, 26).

  1. Since you are supposed to be studying how to write English well, I would expect your first sentence to be this:
I was wondering if I did this correctly.
If you don't practice correct English all the time, your command of it will always be sketchy.

    How can you correct this?
#2- its idea is not correct the information cited isn't the same as in source.
And in addition to the technical correction, the sentence itself is quite vague. What do you mean by "idea is not correct"? What do you mean by "information cited isn't the same..." Those two parts of your statement are vague and it's not clear what you think is incorrect.

Your directions are these: "... Each of the following exercises shows the original source, and then a student’s sentence and/or citation about that source. Correct each of them."

I don't see any correction. All I see is your vague statement that it's incorrect. Your teacher already knows it's incorrect; your job is to correct it!

  3. Yes, it is, but writing only vague generalities won't get you anywhere.

First of all, make sure you understand exactly what the assignment is asking you to do.

Second, practice using correct English all the time, including capitals, punctuation, good grammar and usage, etc.

Now ... exactly what is it in that "Student's sentence" that you think is incorrect?

  4. Ill try my best to use correct English.

What I think is incorrect in the "Student's sentence" is "lose as many as 90% of the aspen population."

  5. Exactly -- good.

And what's wrong with the citation?

Read the in-text citation examples here to see how it SHOULD be written.

  6. Aspen are experiencing a massive illness that is spreading through Wyoming, and Utah.
"Surveys of two national forests in Arizona showed that from 2000 to 1007, lower-elevation areas lost 90 percent of their aspens".(Nijhuis, 26).

  7. Almost perfect!! Super!!

Just remove the comma after "Wyoming" and make the end of the quotation read like this: " ... their aspens" (Nijhuis 26).

(You can see this at the end of the 3rd example on that linked webpage I gave you above.)

  8. omg thank you like sooo soooo much

    does this look better?

Aspen are experiencing a massive illness that is spreading through Wyoming and Utah.
"Surveys of two national forests in Arizona showed that from 2000 to 1007, lower-elevation areas lost 90 percent of their aspens"(Nijhuis 26).
