what do you mean by a "target language"???...

I am not sure of what context this term is being used in, but the most common way I've heard the term used is when it's referring to the language being studied/learned.

For an ESL student, the target language is English.

For a student of French, the target language is French.

Etc.

In the context of language learning or translation, a "target language" refers to the language into which a text or speech is being translated or learned. It is the language that learners or translators are trying to understand or produce.

For example, if someone is learning Spanish as their second language, Spanish would be their target language. If a document written in English needs to be translated into French, French would be the target language for the translation.
