Did I properly quote this sentence?

Feldman is the author from my school textbook. I am not sure if I have this part right.

Do I include the authors' name within the brackets() are do I leave out the author name and just put brackets around the year and page number?= Feldman, (2009, pg.321)

I am not sure if I have this part at the end of the sentence right with the Period inside the quotation marks " like this = approach.”

Does the period go inside the quotation or outside of the quotation?

This the complete quotation from my textbook that I am using as part of sentence from my paper in class.

Feldman, (2009, pg.321) states, “In short, applying multiple approaches to motivation in a given situation provides a broader understanding than we might obtain by employing a single approach.”

Scroll down a bit to see the examples. The page number does NOT go in the same place as the year of publication.

Yes, I am using APA guidelines. Thank you.

You're welcome. =)

To properly quote a sentence, you can follow these guidelines:

1. In academic writing, it is common to include the author's name within the sentence or in parentheses after the quote. In your case, you have correctly included the author's name, Feldman, within parentheses.

2. For the publication year and page number, you typically place them in parentheses after the author's name, separated by a comma. So, (2009, pg.321) is correctly formatted.

3. Regarding the placement of the period, different citation styles have different guidelines. In general, if the quoted material is a complete sentence, the period should be placed inside the quotation marks. However, if the quoted material is not a complete sentence and is part of a larger sentence, the period should be placed outside the quotation marks, immediately after the citation. In your case, since the quote you provided is a complete sentence within your larger sentence, the period should go inside the quotation marks. So your sentence is correctly formatted as:

Feldman (2009, pg.321) states, "In short, applying multiple approaches to motivation in a given situation provides a broader understanding than we might obtain by employing a single approach."

Remember to check the specific citation style recommended by your instructor or institution, as there may be variations depending on the style guide you are using (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago).
