My teacher assigned homework today that says to "specify the intersection and the union of the given sets."

1 problem is :

{10,-6,-2} and {-2,2,6}

i believe what she is requesting is 2 venn diagrams.

one for intersection and one for the union.

I've made the diagrams to show -2 in the middle and the others on each side.

I know for a fact that we need to shade in part of the diagram, but I'm not sure which.

please help.

thank you.

The intersection includes the point -2, it is common to both sets. The union includes all data points, union means combined.

To specify the intersection and the union of the given sets, you can use Venn diagrams to visualize the relationship between the sets. Here's how you can do it step by step:

Step 1: Draw two overlapping circles to represent the two sets. Label one circle as Set A and the other as Set B.

Step 2: Write the elements of Set A, {10, -6, -2}, inside the circle labeled Set A. Write the elements of Set B, {-2, 2, 6}, inside the circle labeled Set B.

Step 3: Find the common elements between the two sets. In this case, the common element is -2. Write the common element in the overlapped region of the circles.

Step 4: For the intersection, shade the region where the circles overlap. In this case, since the only common element is -2, you would shade only the overlapped region containing -2.

Step 5: For the union, include all the elements from both sets. Write down all the elements from Set A and Set B in the merged area outside the circles.

In your case, the intersection of Set A and Set B is {-2}, and the union of Set A and Set B is {10, -6, -2, 2, 6}.

I hope this helps you correctly specify the intersection and union using Venn diagrams for the given sets!
