When should file compression be used >
Last resort!
If there are files that are not used frequently, they should be compressed and stored offline.
If they are used frequently, there is always the minute chance of errors which will render the whole compressed file useless.
At today's disk prices and availability compression is not needed in all but the most exceptional cases.
