Copán is one of the most impressive sites for ruins of the ancient Maya civilization. Situated in western Honduras, Copán is where the great Maya civilization flourished. Though other Maya ruins have been found in neighboring countries, no other quite like Copán has been discovered. Archaeologists search the area, like an Odyssean journey, because many claim that other ruins must be in the immediate area. Though no other significant ruins have been found, Copán provides scholars plenty to study and learn from still today in the 21st century.
