Hello.

Please help me.
1)Is "any" a must in such structures as "he doesn't have any friends" or is it possible to say "he doesn't have friends"?
2)Does "defend" have the same meaning as "protect" in the context "he was accused of protecting the ousted president"?
3)Is it grammatically possible to say "the resigned president"?
4) Does the phrase "on account" sound natural in the context "he was ousted on account of protests"?
5)Is the sentence grammatically correct: "Such remarks were making his achievements doubtful"?
Thank you very, very much.

1) also: He has no friends.

2) yes
3) yes
4) yes, although "because of" is another choice
5) yes
