How does the great compromise demonstrate the need for a balance of representation among the states?

One side in this debate wanted representatives for citizens. States with smaller populations would have fewer representatives than those with larger populations.

The other side wanted each state represented equally.

The Great Compromise set up our bicameral Congress, with the Senate representing each state equally (2 senators per state). In the House each representative is a delegate for a given number of citizens.
