/-8/+/5/ Simplify??? the lines are supposed to go straight but ya i cant find how to do this or the answer please HELP!!!

The -8 would be 8 because anything outside the absolute value is positive. I get 13 at least the way I learned it.

ya that makes sense thankyou :)

|-8|=8

|5|=5

|-8|+|5|=8+5=13

|| is absolute value of a number

On en.wikipedia you can read article about absolute value.

To simplify the given expression, you need to follow the order of operations, which is also known as PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division from left to right, and Addition and Subtraction from left to right). Let's break down the expression step by step:

Step 1: Start with the given expression: |-8| + |5|

Step 2: Evaluate the absolute values.
|-8| = 8 (since the absolute value of -8 is 8)
|5| = 5 (since the absolute value of 5 is 5)

Step 3: Replace the absolute values with their respective values within the expression.
8 + 5

Step 4: Add the two numbers together.
8 + 5 = 13

So, the simplified value of |-8| + |5| is 13.

Please note that the absolute value of a number is the distance of that number from zero on the number line. If the number is positive or zero, the absolute value is equal to the number itself. If the number is negative, the absolute value is equal to the opposite of the number.
