by the battery is 3 A and the current through
R1 is 1 A, what is the current through R2?

  1. note that voltage is constant across each resistor. also in parallel circuit, the sum of the currents across each resistor is equal to the total current,, since there are only two resistors in the circuit in the problem,
    I1 + I2 = I,total
    substituting,
    1 + I2 = 3
    I2 = 3-1 = 2 A
