I am having trouble figuring out this question:

Part 1: A long staight wire carries a current due East. This wire creates, at point #1, a magnetic field that is derected at 40 deg below due South. From point #1, the wire is located:

50 deg below due North
50 deg below due South
40 deg above due North
40 deg above due South
50 deg above due West
50 deg above due East
40 deg below due West
40 deg below due East
directly above
directly below
none of these choices

Part 2: Refer to the previous problem. An electron at point #1 is instantaneously traveling due North. Due only to the wire, the electron at #1 instantaneously accelerates:

East
West
North
South
directly up
directly down
50 deg N or West
50 deg S of East
none of the above

I think for part 1 it's 40 deg due South and for part 2 is west, but I'm just guessing. Please help me!

acar travel 3km due north then 5km east. represent these displacement graphically and determine the resultant displacement.

To solve these problems, you need to use the right-hand rule, which determines the direction of the magnetic field around a current-carrying wire. Here's how you can figure out the answers:

Part 1: To find the direction of the wire, point your right thumb in the direction of the current (due East). Then curl your fingers inward. The direction your fingers curl represents the direction of the magnetic field around the wire. In this case, the magnetic field is directed below due South, which means the wire must be located 40 degrees below due South. Therefore, the correct answer for Part 1 is "40 deg below due South."

Part 2: Using the right-hand rule again, extend your right thumb in the direction of the electron's velocity (due North). Then point your fingers in the direction of the magnetic field created by the wire (40 degrees below due South). Now observe the direction in which your palm faces. This gives you the direction of the force experienced by the electron. According to the right-hand rule, the force experienced by the electron will be directed to your left (West). Therefore, the correct answer for Part 2 is "West".

Based on your guesses, it seems you are correct! The wire is 40 degrees below due South, and the electron accelerates towards the West.
