x/6 + 3 = 9

(6)x/6+3=(6)9
x+3=54
x=51

When i checked the answer I got 11 1/2
not 9 what did i do wrong or is it not solvable?

6(x/6) + 6(3) = 6(9)

(You forgot to multiply the 6 by ALL terms in your work.)

x + 18 = 54
Subtract the 18 on both sides.

x=36

I would do it this way, but you get the same answer...

x/6 + 3 = 9
Subtract the 3 from both sides.

x/6 = 6
Cross multiply and divide.

x=36
