is x=|y+2| a function or not?why or y not?

thanks in advance

[y + 2] = X.

The Eq is an absolute value function.
It is a function , because it passes the vertical line test:

If you draw a vertical line through the
graph of an Eq and it intersects the graph only once, the Eq is a function.

[Y + 2] = X,
+-(Y + 2) = X,

+(Y + 2) = X,
Y + 2 = X,
Y = X - 2.

-(Y + 2) = X,
-Y - 2 = X,
-Y = X + 2,
Multiply both sides by -1 and get:
y = -x -2.

Eq1: Y=X - 2. (-2, -4), (0, -2)(2, 0).

Eq2: Y=-X -2. (2, -4),(0, -2), (-2, 0).

We have 2 Eqs, because the quanity in
the brackets can be a positive or negative number: [-6] = 6, [6] = 6.

If you graph the Eqs, you'll notice
that they form a rt angle at the point of intersection.
