if each "hydrogen" atom has a mass of 1g and each "carbon" atom has a mass of 12g what is the ratio of the mass of 1 mole of carbon to one mole of hydrogen

You quit writing too soon and the problem isn't clear.

The ratio is
C/H = 12/1 atom to atom in grams.
C/H2 = 12/2 atom to molecule (grams). When one writes ...... mass of 1 mole of carbon to one mole of hydrogen, I think of hydrogen as being H2.
Finally, I could have interpreted the problem as
C/H = 1/1 in moles. 1 mole C/1 mole H atoms.
