Is Ghana and Mali and nearby countries considered central Africa?

Since today it is on a modern map..it is located northwest...but back then..was it considered central africa?

Ghana, because of its tropical latitude and coastal location, is considered a west African country. Although relatively close to Ghana, Mali should be consided a sahelian African country, since it adjoins the Sahara and is quite dry.

Those are my opinions. There is not formal agreed-upon division of Africa into regional zones.

To determine whether Ghana and Mali were historically considered part of Central Africa, we can examine their geographical location during different historical periods.

Ghana, which was part of the ancient Ghana Empire (4th to 11th centuries), was located in what is now modern-day Mauritania and Mali. This empire was situated in West Africa, specifically in the Sahel region, which is the transitional zone between the Sahara Desert in the north and the savannahs in the south. From a historical perspective, the ancient Kingdom of Ghana was not considered part of Central Africa but rather a West African civilization.

Mali, on the other hand, is known for the Malian Empire (13th to 16th centuries) and was situated further east than Ghana, primarily in modern-day Mali and parts of surrounding countries. The Mali Empire was also located in West Africa, specifically in the Sahel region, which expanded to include parts of the Sahara Desert.

Central Africa, on the other hand, refers to a region located in the middle of the African continent. It generally includes countries such as Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon.

Therefore, neither Ghana nor Mali, in their historical context, were considered part of Central Africa. They were both located in West Africa, specifically in the Sahel region. It's important to note that the borders and classifications of regions have evolved over time, so it's essential to consider historical and modern perspectives when analyzing geographical regions.
