Hello,

I'm just wondering how I would conjugate the verb "apporter" in the passe compose, to agree with gender and number? I know that in the passe compose, apporter becomes apporte (with an accent). But when it needs to be feminine, does it become aportee? And when it needs to be feminine and plural, does it become aportees?

I forgot to say, I'm using this with avoir. Like: Je les ai _____.

Understood! With verbs using avoir as the auxiliary/helping verb in the passé composé, the past participal agrees in number (singular/plural) and gender (masculine/feminine) with any preceding direct object.

In the example you give, it is important to know what the "les" stands for. "les cahiers = apportés BUT les lettres = apportées.

Sra (aka Mme)

(masc + plur)

J'ai apporté les cahiers
Je les ai apportés

(fem + plur)
J'ai apporté les roses
Je les ai apportées

Hello,

To conjugate the verb "apporter" in the passé composé and agree it with gender and number, you follow these steps:

Step 1: Choose the correct auxiliary verb based on the subject:
- For masculine subjects, use the auxiliary verb "avoir."
- For feminine subjects, use the auxiliary verb "avoir."

Step 2: Conjugate the auxiliary verb "avoir" in the passé composé:
- For masculine subjects, use "a" as the auxiliary verb with "apporté."
- For feminine subjects, use "a" as the auxiliary verb with "apporté."

Step 3: Add the past participle of the verb "apporter":
- The past participle of "apporter" is "apporté."
- Keep in mind that the past participle does not change based on gender or number.

Examples:
- J'ai apporté un cadeau. (I brought a gift.) - Masculine singular.
- Elle a apporté une bouteille de vin. (She brought a bottle of wine.) - Feminine singular.
- Nous avons apporté des biscuits. (We brought some cookies.) - Masculine or mixed group plural.
- Elles ont apporté des fleurs. (They brought flowers.) - Feminine plural.

In summary, the past participle "apporté" remains the same regardless of gender or number. The agreement is made with the auxiliary verb "avoir" by choosing the correct form based on the subject's gender and number.

I hope this explanation helps you conjugate the verb "apporter" in the passé composé correctly!
