  2. Every clause has a subject and a verb. If it's an independent clause, then it can be its own sentence or it can be combined with other clauses to make different types of sentences (compound, complex, compound-complex). If it's a dependent clause, it must be combined with at least one independent clause to be part of a complete sentence.
