Alright I'm writing an MLA Essay about Through The Looking-Glass, a sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol. I'm basically writing about how it is indeed a sequel to the first book and comparing the two. I'm not sure how to start it and if i need to underline or make the title bold or include the author. Please help me get started I'm so confused

  3. Do you have a thesis statement? Do you have an outline or plan? If you do, please post them.

Do NOT start a paper by writing the introduction. Please read and follow directions in BOTH responses in the post linked above.

  4. Having some history with Charles Dodgson, and written papers, and photography collections, reading your plan suggest to me that I wonder if you have read Dogson's biography at all. There are several, and there are many published photographs of Alice as a child when Alice was written. In fact, in the original (handwritten), Alice's picture is on the last page.
I agree with Writeacher, you indicate a gross lack of planning on this "essay". Do some research, as I did as a teenager in the 1950's (it was not a HS assignment), and learn about Dodgson: logic, math, photography, and his puns...there are so many works that apply. All this has stayed with me for a lifetime. I still have the prints of photographs I acquired 50 years ago. Once you see those photographs, you will know why I kept mine, and you also will know why your focusing on the issue of "sequel" barely touches Dodgson or Alice Liddell, or their relationship to the works, and the sequence thereof.

  5. Honestly your correct when you say I have a lack of planning for the essay. Honestly I read both books and i just don't know where to get started. I realize that a major part of the book is about dreaming and what is actually real. I don't know how to put this into a thesis statement. I also have looked at photgraphy collections of Dodgson. He enjoyed photographing children and specifically young girls. He believed the height of a child determined their emotional and psychological development. I don't know how to incorporate this into my essay. Honestly I am so confused in planning it out. Sorry I really am trying!

Notice the parallels in the two books, parallel but "opposites".
