First of all, do you have an outline or plan for the main ideas of your paper. The intro is probably one of the last things you should write, except for the one sentence in there that states your overall, main idea - your thesis statement. So ... here's what to do:

Look over that "intro" you have written and isolate the ONE sentence that clearly states your main idea. (If there isn't ONE sentence in there that does that, then write one.) That is the thesis statement and should include both factual information as well as your position (or stance or opinion) about your topic. Here's an excellent website that will help you write good thesis statements:

Once you have your thesis statement pretty much solidified, then you should make a plan -- perhaps a list! -- of the supporting ideas you will include that will prove your thesis statement true. Your plan should also have these supporting ideas in a logical order, so that you end with your strongest proof or point.

Then write the rough draft, concentrating only on those supporting ideas -- each idea becoming one or more paragraphs. After you have finished the rough draft of the body of your paper, re-read it and revise it so that it makes good sense and is in strong logical order.

Finally, once you have the body of your paper almost finalized, write the introduction, then the conclusion. After all, how can you introduce a topic that you haven't written about yet? What if, in the process of writing your paper, you change your position or a main fact in your assertion? So don't bother with the intro first -- it should be written almost last (even though it'll be read first)!

make your thesis statement first

To start your first paragraph for your essay on heroes, you can consider using a hook or an attention-grabbing statement. This could be a thought-provoking question, a shocking statistic, a powerful quote, or an interesting anecdote related to heroes.

For example, you could begin with a quote from a famous figure emphasizing the importance of heroes, such as "A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself" by Joseph Campbell.

After your hook, you can introduce the topic of heroes and provide some background information. Explain what a hero is and why they are significant in society. You can also briefly mention the different types of heroes you will be discussing in your essay, such as fictional heroes, historical heroes, or personal heroes.

Remember to end your first paragraph with a clear and concise thesis statement that encompasses the main points you will be discussing in your essay. This statement should present your overall argument or perspective on heroes.

Once you have a strong thesis statement and a clear introduction, you can proceed to develop your main ideas in the body paragraphs. Each paragraph should focus on a specific aspect or characteristic of heroes and provide evidence or examples to support your claims.

As you write, remember to use transition words and phrases to guide your reader smoothly from one idea to the next. Finally, conclude your essay by summarizing your main points and reinforcing the significance of heroes in society.

I hope these suggestions help you get started on writing the first paragraph of your essay on heroes. Good luck!
