Bob,

This is what you said to do but i'm still not getting the answer which i have to get to V=20ft cubed. I've done the converting but i can't get to the answer because 4ft is 48inches. I've tried it with feet and inches and i still can't get to the answer please help

The original question is find the volume (v)of a toy box with length(l)of 4ft, iwdth (w) if 24in and height(h) of 30in.Using the formula v=lwh.

The following was your responce from my other postage.
Yes, volume is L x W x H and you have multiplied the numbers correctly; however, the units must be the same. In your problem, the length is 4 FEET but the W and H are listed in INCHES. You must convert feet to inches or inches to feet before multiplying. The ocnversion yo make will depend upon the problem and how it wants the answered; i.e., in cubic inches or in cubic feet.

24 inches = 2 feet.
30 inches = 2.5 feet
Then V = LWH
V = 4 ft x 2 ft x 2.5 ft = 20 ft^3.
If we work in inches, then
4 ft x 12in/ft = 48 inches and
48in x 24in x 30in = 34,560 in^3. Then to show these are the same answer, the conversion from cubic inches to cubic feet is 1,728 in^3 = 1ft^3 and
34,560/1,728 = 20 ft^3
I hope this helps.

I apologize for the confusion. Let's go through the calculation again step by step to ensure we get the correct answer.

First, let's convert the dimensions to the same unit. Since the formula for volume is given in cubic feet, we need to have all measurements in feet.

Given:
Length (L) = 4 ft
Width (W) = 24 in (which is equivalent to 2 ft)
Height (H) = 30 in (which is equivalent to 2.5 ft)

So, now we have:
Length (L) = 4 ft
Width (W) = 2 ft
Height (H) = 2.5 ft

To find the volume, we can use the formula V = L * W * H.

V = 4 ft * 2 ft * 2.5 ft
V = 20 ft^3

Therefore, the volume of the toy box is 20 ft^3.

Alternatively, if you want to work with inches, the calculation would be:

Given:
Length (L) = 4 ft (which is equivalent to 48 in)
Width (W) = 24 in
Height (H) = 30 in

So, now we have:
Length (L) = 48 in
Width (W) = 24 in
Height (H) = 30 in

To find the volume, we can use the formula V = L * W * H.

V = 48 in * 24 in * 30 in
V = 34,560 in^3

To convert to cubic feet, we divide the result by 1,728 cubic inches in a cubic foot:
V = 34,560 in^3 / 1,728 in^3/ft^3
V ≈ 20 ft^3 (rounded to the nearest whole number)

So whether we use feet or inches, the volume of the toy box is approximately 20 ft^3.
