Replace the direct object with a direct object pronoun.

Question: Van a estudiar el espanol esta noche?

My answer: Nosotros yo los entiendo

Points taken off for putting in word nosotros - I do not understand why.

Thank you for using the Jiskha Homework Help Forum. Let's begin with direct-object pronouns = me, te, lo, la, nos, os, los, las. The question asks either "Are they going to study Spanish tonight?" OR "Are you-all going to study Spanish tonight?" Let's assume it's the 2nd choice although it would have best to include "Van ustedes......."

When the question is asked about "you-all" think the answer through first of all in English. Yes, WE all, etc. Now you can do the Spanish: (We are going to study it, it replacing Spanish.) Sí, nosotros vamos a estudiarlo. OR since there is ir + a + infinitive you have another position choice =
Sí, lo vamos a estudiar esta noche.

If points were taken off for using the word "nosotros" I don't understand why either! In that case, perhaps your teacher meant "¿Van ellos a estudiar el español esta noche? Then the answer would be "Sí, ellos van a estudiarlo." OR "Sí, ellos lo van a estudiar."

Frankly this question is not clear because it does not include the subject pronoun either "ellos" or "ustedes" and therefore the question is not crystal clear! So, let's see how your teacher explains that one. (If I were you, I'd copy and paste my answer so my explanation is clear to your teacher!)

Then, of course, if you were NOT to answer the question but simply rewrite (another possibility!) the answer would be as simple as "¿Van a estudiarlo esta noche?" OR "¿Lo van a estudiar esta noche?" The directions have to explain to you whether you are to answer the question or simply REWRITE.

Since plural "van" is used in the question, it was asked abolut a plural "you" (Uds.) or about another group of people. But you responded with a first person singular verb conjugation (entiendo) that did not match the subject pronoun (which I assume was "nosotros"). I assume that the "yo" which follows is supposed to me "ya" (already).

There is more than one error in your answer. "los" should be "lo" if you are refering to espanol.

Our language expert SraJMcGin will probably respond later with a better answer than I can give you.

No u dont

To correctly replace the direct object "el español" in the sentence "Van a estudiar el español esta noche?" with a direct object pronoun, you need to use the pronoun "lo" since the noun is masculine singular. The correct answer would be:

Answer: ¿Lo van a estudiar esta noche?

In your response, you used the pronoun "los," which is used for plural objects. Additionally, the pronoun "yo" is not necessary since it is not mentioned in the original question. Therefore, the correct sentence should be "¿Lo entienden?" to replace "El español lo entienden."
