The addition of praise or a sticker increases the chances of the student continuing to complete their homework regularly.
On the other hand, negative reinforcement involves removing an aversive stimulus to increase the likelihood of a behavior being repeated. It is often misunderstood as punishment, but they are different concepts. Negative reinforcement focuses on the removal of something unpleasant rather than adding something negative. For instance, if a student is allowed to skip a homework assignment if they have already excelled on a previous test, the absence of the assignment (removal of an aversive stimulus) increases the chances of the student continuing to excel on tests.
