1 word 2 meanings. My child has an assigment and the teacher wants 2 meanings for each word. What is this?

I think it either means:

flower
and
flour

or

whirligig-which can mean a childs top, and round circular thing, anything that revolves.

I hope this helps. If I have not answered your question, please tell me. I am still on for a couple of minutes.

Thanks I think this is the answer I was looking for. I hope.

That is correct

NO

Many words have multiple meanings.

religion, school, meaning are typical examples. Often dictionaries give the meanings in most used orders, as 1) then 2) and 3).

Thanks....

I believe you mean a homograph.

Spelling

Yes, you are correct. The term you are referring to is a homograph. Homographs are words that are spelled the same but have different meanings. They can sometimes cause confusion because the context is needed to determine the correct meaning. Examples of homographs include "bow" (a type of knot and to bend forward) and "tear" (to rip and the liquid that comes out of your eyes when you cry). I hope this clarifies your question.
