The speed of train A is 6 mph slower than the speed of train B. Train A travels 200 miles in the same time it takes train B to travel 230 miles. Find the speed of each train?

Let V1 be the speed of the slower train.

let V2 be the speed of the faster train.
Here is what you know:
V2 = V1 + 6
V2 = (230/200)*V1 = (23/20)*V1 = 1.15 V1

Solve by substitution
1.15 V1 = V1 + 6
0.15 V1 = 6
V1 = 40 mph
Use either of the original equations to solve for V2.
