Can someone provide a link to ancient Gothic music? I need to describe the music from this era.

Oh well I cannot provide you to a link but I can tell you that it is hymns. Considering that Gothic cathedrals were very ornate in nature they are I believe roman catholic or catholic at the very least. So start looking up some hymns, and these hymns were known to be spiritual but they were not up-beat. I have heard a very interesting point made by a comedian that hymns were very dreary born out of 'decent' treatment whereas gospel which is happy and up beat comes from slavery and pain.

Best of luck to you so just remember that Gothic= gothic cathedral which is Catholic.

I searched for medieval gothic music and here are the results:

this helps and next time use google or another search engine good luck!

You should be able to go into these different albums (choose John Dowland's works) and listen to parts of various tracks on each CD. You don't have to buy anything, but his work will give you a good idea of the sound.

These sites should help you.

I tried that but came up with links to "present day" Goth music or literature reviews.

The gothic music you're looking for is Medieval, not ancient, not modern!

That's why I searched for medieval gothic music and got the results above.

Thank you Ms. Sue. Your second link was what I was looking for. Thanks again.

Thank you for your help. I was using the wording from our syllabus.
