Which is NOT a chareteristic property of acids?

A: react with carbonate to yield CO2 gas
B: taste sour
C: neutralize bases
D; turns litmus red to blue
E:reacts with metal to yield H2 gas

I reckon its D because isnt it the other way around ?
Blue to red ...not...red to blue
Any ideas??
Is it D?????
thanks Andy

The answer is D because if red litmus is immersed in acid it will not be affected red litmus turns blue only if put in *Base, futhermore Blue litmus immersed in acid will turn red.

thanks so much

pOH of an aqueous solution of 0.396 M hydroiodic acid?

Yes, you are correct. The correct answer is D. Acids actually turn blue litmus paper red, not the other way around.

When determining the answer to this question, you can understand the characteristics of acids and evaluate each option based on your knowledge. Here's a breakdown:

Option A: Acids do react with carbonate compounds to yield CO2 gas, so this is a characteristic property of acids.
Option B: Acids taste sour, which is another characteristic property of acids.
Option C: Acids neutralize bases, so this is also a characteristic property of acids.
Option D: Acids turn blue litmus paper red, not the other way around. Therefore, this is not a characteristic property of acids.
Option E: Acids do react with certain metals to yield hydrogen gas, so this is also a characteristic property of acids.

By analyzing each option and applying your knowledge of acids, you can determine that option D is the one that does not represent a characteristic property of acids.
