A steel container of oxygen has a volume of 20.0 L at 22 C @35 atm. What is the volume @ STP? How many mol of oxygen are in the container?

  1. I would use P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2 to convert from the conditions listed to STP. Then I would use PV = nRT to determine moles.

  2. Not sure on this, I get that whole formula but I don`t have a P2V2/T2 to use in the equation. And do I need to change the 35 atm somehow by using the 760mmHG?

  3. Sure you do. STP is 1 atm for P and 273 Kelvin for T. Don't forget to use Kelvin for the other temperature.

    T1 = 22+273 = 295

    P2 = 1 atm
    V2 = ??
    T2 = 273

    (35*20/295) = (1*V2/273)
    solve for V2.
    It isn't 2.37 and it isn't 700.
