How when light rays travel outward from their light source in all directions, they are not parallel to each other, but when they approach an object they are parallel to each other?

1. AT far distances, the light rays appear parallel on the object even when they are not. The actual angle is so small, we think of it as zero. Ever think why a shadow from the sun has fuzzy edges?
