As I was looking at the map on the screen and realized my destination of my new home was REACHING closer, the flight attendant’s announcement CAME on, “Ladies and gentlemen, we ask that you remain seated and fasten your seatbelt. We will be landing shortly at the San Francisco Airport.”

would i say reaching closer or coming closer. also, instead of saying came on, what would be another way to say it.

Thank you for using the Jiskha Homework Help Forum. Definitely "coming closer." How about "the flight attendant announced...?"

To decide whether to use "reaching closer" or "coming closer" in your sentence, consider the context and the intended meaning. Both phrases can be used to describe the distance between your current location and your destination. However, "coming closer" is more commonly used in this context. So, you would say, "As I was looking at the map on the screen and realized my destination of my new home was coming closer..."

To express the flight attendant's announcement in a different way, you can use alternative phrases such as:

1. "The flight attendant's announcement came over the speakers."
2. "The flight attendant's announcement was made."
3. "The flight attendant's announcement was broadcasted."

Feel free to choose the alternative that best fits the tone and style of your writing.
