Could someone tell me how I would write out trimethylammonium butanoate's structure? I think the butanoate part is CH3CH2CH2-C=O but I don't know how to add the trimethylammonium part to it.
I believe you would write this a salt.
[(CH3)3NH]^+ + CH3CH2CH2COO^-
[(CH3)3NH]^+ is the trimethyl ammonium ion, analogous in inorganic chemistry to NH4^+
