The attendance at a baseball game was 400 people. Student Ticket cost $2 and adult tickets cost were $3. Total Ticket Sales were $1050. How many tickets of each type were sold?

Ok, this is what I did:
2x+400=1050
-400=-400
-----------
2x=650
x=325

3y+400=1050
-400=-400
-----------
3y=650
y=216.6=217

I'm not sure if this is right? Can you please help me. Thanks.

No.

2x + 3(400-x)=1050

I don't know how you came up with your original equations. You seem to be adding numbers of people (400) to dollars (1050) in the same equation. That is not allowed.

If S is the number of students and A is the number of adults,
S + A = 400
2S + 3A =1050
2S + 2A = 800
Subtract the last equation from the one above. That will give you what A is. S is 400 -A

Ok, I'm really confused. Where did you get 800? I don't really understand.

Is it like this:

2(S+A)=400
2S+SA=800

Is this right? If so, what do I do after this?

X=-30
