A group of five students needs to break into two smaller groups in order to tackle the two different assignments associated with a larger group project. Naturally, they feel that it would be most fair to break into groups of two and three. How many ways are there to do this?

Among the 5 people you might try to RANK them. The strongest down to the weakest. By the strongest working with the weakest, you will raise the group score (if there is one) With an odd number (5) you will have to decide 2 versus 3.

Because I worked a great deal with small groups the trick was to combine some strong students with some weaker ones, since they got a group score. Naatural selection always seemed to pick the best group leader.

Without knowing more about your assignment, there is not much more I can tell you at this time. Some people are better talkers and others are better listeners. You'll want a combination, meaning not all the listeners together nor all the talkers together!
