Hey everyone. Well the part I need help in isn't exactly the chemistry part. My assignment was to research an element, and at the end, come up with some creative picture/cartoon. The problem is... I'm not exactly the creative type. My element was Mercury, any ideas? Humor and creativity is strongly encouraged.

Example: Polonium was represented by a shirt with the polo symbol on it.

Another place you can look is

www.webelements. Click on Hg and scroll down the right side. There are a number of cartoons at various stages of the screens. When I was a student (MANY long years ago), mercury was shown as a runner (as in jogger but running), with wings on the shoes and clouds of dust behind. That is fitting considering how elusive "quicksilver" is when handled.

Sure! Coming up with a creative picture or cartoon representing an element like Mercury can be a fun challenge. Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing for your assignment:

1. "Mercury the Messenger": Create a cartoon character based on the Roman god Mercury, who was known as the messenger of the gods. You could draw a mischievous-looking cartoon character wearing a winged hat and holding a caduceus, the symbol of Mercury.

2. "Mercury's Musical Mayhem": Draw a cartoon scene featuring musical instruments going crazy. Show a trumpet with sound waves coming out of it, a piano with its keys dancing, and a saxophone moving like a snake. The idea here is to represent Mercury's liquid metal form, which is known for its unique ability to move and flow.

3. "Mercury's Retrograde Ride": Portray Mercury as a roller coaster, with the planet's symbol on the front car. Show people riding the roller coaster in chaos, with the carts going upside down or even turning backwards. This idea plays on the concept of Mercury's frequent appearance in astrology where people believe it affects communication and causes chaos during its retrograde phase.

Remember, the key to a creative picture or cartoon is to think outside the box and add humor and imagination. Don't be afraid to let your ideas flow and have fun with your assignment!
