Hello everybody!

Next week I have to teach English (as a foreign language)to 6th-graders. The lesson is called Danger or thrill. It is about extreme sports.there is a text about snow boarding, some statements and a few exercises. My mentor will first present them the lesson on Monday and then on Tuesday I am supposed to have practicing. Any ideas about the lesson? What exercises should I prepare?Ideas? I am just collecting ideas now
Any kind of advice is welcome

I would look at the lesson objectives first. I am certain the objective was not to teach English in one lesson. So what was the objective? Choose reinforcement tasks that actually reinforece the lesson objectives.

Hello! Teaching a lesson on extreme sports sounds like a fun and engaging topic for 6th-graders. Here are some ideas for exercises and activities you can include in your lesson:

1. Warm-up activity: Start the lesson with a group discussion or a class survey about their favorite sports and hobbies. Ask them if they have ever tried any extreme sports or if they know anyone who has.

2. Pre-reading activity: Before introducing the text about snowboarding, you can present some vocabulary related to extreme sports. Use flashcards or pictures to teach words such as adrenaline, thrill, danger, helmet, equipment, etc. You can also brainstorm different types of extreme sports and write them on the board.

3. Reading comprehension: Have the students read the text about snowboarding individually or in pairs. Then, ask them to answer comprehension questions based on the text. For example, you can ask them to identify the main idea, summarize the text, or find specific information.

4. Vocabulary practice: Create a matching exercise where the students have to match the extreme sports vocabulary words with their definitions. You can also give them sentences with missing words and ask them to fill in the blanks using the correct vocabulary words.

5. Speaking activity: Divide the class into small groups and assign each group a different extreme sport. Ask each group to prepare a short presentation about the sport, including its history, rules, equipment, and any famous athletes associated with it. Encourage them to use the vocabulary words they have learned.

6. Writing activity: Ask the students to imagine that they are professional extreme sports athletes and have them write a blog post or a diary entry about their most thrilling experience in their chosen sport. They can describe the emotions, sensations, and challenges they faced.

7. Reflection and discussion: Wrap up the lesson by having a class discussion about the dangers and thrills of extreme sports. Ask the students to share their opinions on whether the risks involved in these sports are worth the excitement they offer.

Remember to adapt these exercises to suit the language level and interests of your students. It's also a good idea to include interactive elements such as videos, pictures, or role-plays to make the lesson more engaging. Good luck with your lesson!
