One interesting one that I can think of involves the spliting of two religions, look into the biblical anticdote of the twins Issac and Ishmal (which became the leaders and forefathers of Isreal (jews) and the Iraq/Afganistan area (Islamic). Because both brothers believed they had claim to the birthright, a bloddy land war eventual broke out and has been going off and on since. I advise asking a local Christian, Jewish, or Islamic leader about it. Maybe all three, to get different sides.

Organized religion has had various effects on society throughout history. Two prominent effects that can be observed are:

1. Social Cohesion and Unity: Organized religions often serve as a unifying force and provide a sense of belonging for their followers. They promote social cohesion by establishing common values, shared rituals, and a sense of community. This effect can be seen in events like:

Example 1: The Civil Rights Movement in the United States (1955-1968). Religious leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., who was a Baptist minister, played a significant role in uniting people of different races and religions to fight against racial segregation and discrimination. Their religious beliefs and teachings of equality and justice served as a powerful rallying point for the movement.

Example 2: The Hajj pilgrimage for Muslims. Each year, millions of Muslims from around the world gather in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to participate in the Hajj pilgrimage. This event not only brings together people from diverse backgrounds but also promotes a sense of unity among Muslims, regardless of their nationality or social status.

2. Conflict and Divisions: While religion can unify, it can also contribute to conflicts and divisions within societies. Divergent beliefs, interpretations, and access to power can sometimes lead to social, political, or even violent disputes. Examples of this effect include:

Example 1: The Troubles in Northern Ireland (1960s-1998). The conflict between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland, fueled by historical and religious divisions, led to decades of violence. Religious customs and identities became intertwined with political issues, which fueled the conflict and hindered peacebuilding efforts.

Example 2: The Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians has religious, political, and territorial dimensions. Religion, particularly Judaism and Islam, plays a significant role in defining the identities and aspirations of both sides, which has contributed to the ongoing dispute.

It's worth noting that these effects can vary depending on the context, specific religious traditions, and individual interpretations. Religion's impact on society is multifaceted, and different events and circumstances may illustrate contrasting effects.
