Hi. There is a word missing in this sentence. Would it be pour? Thank you!

Le week-end, j’aime aller à la plage ______ faire bronzer et nager mais seulement quand il fait chaud.

I'm not a French teacher but I have been taking French for four years (just started my fifth). If it were my assignment I would definitely put "pour" because it would then say: I like to go to the beach in order to tan and to swim but only when it's hot". That makes sense, right? But maybe you could wait for the language tutor? She's very very good at speaking French!

Hello,

Samantha, you' re not wrong in your answer but, you should say " pour ME "
= " j' aime aller à la plage pour me faire bronzer ".

:)

Thank you very much Samantha and Kanon!!!

Yes, you are correct. The missing word in the sentence would be "pour."

To find the missing word, it is important to understand the context and the structure of the sentence. In this case, the sentence is talking about what the speaker likes to do on the weekends. They enjoy going to the beach to do two activities: "faire bronzer" (to sunbathe) and "nager" (to swim). However, there is a missing word between "plage" (beach) and "faire bronzer" (to sunbathe).

In French, the preposition "pour" is commonly used to indicate purpose or intention. In this context, "pour" would fit perfectly, indicating the purpose of going to the beach – to sunbathe and swim. Therefore, the correct sentence would be: "Le week-end, j’aime aller à la plage pour faire bronzer et nager mais seulement quand il fait chaud."

Understanding the meaning and grammar rules of the language can help you identify missing words or errors in a sentence.
