Humans need water for various reasons. Water is essential for maintaining proper bodily functions and overall health. Here's why:

1. Hydration: Water is vital for proper hydration. Our bodies are made up of around 60% water, and water plays a crucial role in maintaining body temperature, carrying nutrients, and removing waste products.

2. Lubrication: Water acts as a lubricant for joints, allowing smooth movement and reducing friction in our body parts. It also helps with digestion by keeping the digestive system functioning properly.

3. Cell Function: Water is essential for the functioning of cells. It helps transport nutrients and oxygen into cells and carries waste products out of them.

4. Temperature Regulation: Water helps regulate body temperature through sweating and releasing heat. When we sweat, water evaporates from our skin, cooling us down.

5. Digestion and Absorption: Water is needed for the digestion and absorption of food. It helps break down nutrients in the digestive system and aids in the absorption of those nutrients into the bloodstream.

To make sure you are adequately hydrated, it is generally recommended to drink at least 8 cups (64 ounces) of water per day. However, individual needs may vary based on factors like activity level, climate, and overall health.
