What is, or should be, the role of the emerging indigenous Iraqi and Afghanistan media, although now being rebuilt with significant help and input by the US, in the battle to "win the peace" and rebuild these countries?

Let me be blunt: Wouldn't that depend a lot of understanding those cultures, and how media fits into them? In that vein, what does "win the peace" mean? I strongly suspect natives view that phrase as a slogan of the occupiers. Why would they want to keep the occupiers in Peace? We certainly did not do that with the British 200 years ago.
