There are two methods of doing that. You can use (1) substitution or (2) elimination.

Elimination seems like the easiest in this case. To do that, we want to cancel one of the variables. Just multiply the top equation by 2.

6x + 4y = 12
-6x - 3y = -6

Then, the x's cancel. 4y - 3y = 1y. We get y=6. Just plug y=6 into either equation and solve to get the x value.
